About The Position

Under the general direction of the Principal or designee, the Elementary Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging instruction aligned with division curriculum and the Virginia Standards of Learning. The teacher creates a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and positive student behavior. The Elementary Teacher contributes to student success through high-quality instruction, collaboration with colleagues, meaningful communication with families, and adherence to School Board policies and applicable federal and state laws. The purpose of this position is to build a pool of certified candidates in a high-demand field in LCS who can: Deliver standards-based instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners. Promote student growth academically, socially, and emotionally. Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment. Support the division’s mission to serve every child, every day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement in Elementary Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons using research-based instructional strategies.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, and gifted students.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior and classroom routines.
  • Foster a classroom culture that promotes equity, respect, and high expectations for all students.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional staff, and support personnel to improve student outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with families regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and division professional development.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation in compliance with division, state, and federal requirements.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during school activities as assigned.
  • Support school improvement initiatives and division priorities.
