About The Position

The Assistant Director for Special Assignments at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit plays a crucial role in supporting the 15 public school districts within the county. This position involves assisting the Executive Director in the administration of various initiatives and programs, particularly in the areas of Special Education and Pupil Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and implementing specialized services, ensuring that the organization remains responsive to the needs of its stakeholders, and enhancing the effectiveness of existing programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Special Education Supervisor Certification.
  • PDE teaching certification in K-12 subject area.
  • Supervisor certificate in a related field (e.g., K-12 Principal, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education).
  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of progressive educational administrative experience.
  • Experience in Education, including Pupil Services and Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Expertise with oversight of administration and staff, and responsibility for large-scale budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director in the day-to-day administration of Intermediate Unit initiatives.
  • Support assigned schools with leadership in developing and implementing specialized services and programs.
  • Strengthen current programs and demonstrate entrepreneurialism to evolve based on stakeholder needs.
  • Lead, monitor, and evaluate program effectiveness of department-wide programs and services.
  • Assist with human resource management tasks for supervising pupil services and special education personnel.
  • Provide consultation, direction, and supervision to school district administration regarding program oversight.
  • Stay informed about state and federal regulations related to education.
  • Build internal and external partnerships to support DCIU programs and initiatives.
  • Act as an entrepreneurial leader by developing and implementing new services and programs.
  • Advise and support the Executive Director with strategic planning and program development.
  • Lead curriculum development and instructional practices for effective student development.
