The Needham Public Schools seeks outstanding applicants for the position of 0.6 FTE Long term Subsititute History & Social Sciences teacher at Needham High School. This position will cover all professional responsibilities for 4 - 8 week leave, beginning on February 23, 2026. Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will plan/teach three sections of Sophomore History and work collaboratively with members of the History Department to support student learning and growth. Under the general supervision of the History & Social Sciences Department Chair, this teacher will be responsible for advancing students' historical knowledge and understanding through critical reading, thinking, and writing. As a Needham High School educator, this teacher will work collaboratively to integrate the attributes, skills, and knowledge made explicit in the Portrait of a Needham Graduate, emphasizing the preparation of students to become socially and culturally responsive contributors. Required Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Candidates should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, have experience working with and/or teaching high school students, and understand the diverse needs of students at this age. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license: History 8-12. Additionally, candidates who have a collaborative work ethic, training/experience in the use of instructional technology, a commitment to inclusive pedagogy, and the potential to contribute to student life beyond the classroom are strongly encouraged to apply.
