About The Position

The School Nurse is responsible for maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the school health services program to maximize its positive impact on the educational environment. This position reports to the Health Services Coordinator and the Building Principal. The School Nurse will assist in implementing the district's preventive health care program and provide care to students and staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree: Registered Professional Nurse (R.N.) or Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) under the supervision of an R.N.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, licensed to practice in Missouri.
  • A copy of the current nursing license must be on file.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining school health services and implementing the district's preventive health care program.
  • Apply appropriate theory for decision-making in nursing practice in the school setting.
  • Render first aid and nursing care to students and staff in case of accident or illness.
  • Collect information about the health and developmental status of students for nursing assessment.
  • Collaborate with the District School Nurse to establish nursing diagnoses and develop Individual Healthcare Plans (I.H.P.) for students.
  • Intervene as guided by the nursing care plan to promote, maintain, or restore health.
  • Assist students and staff with health maintenance needs and promote wellness.
  • Arrange and assist with training sessions regarding health topics for faculty and administrators.
  • Act as a liaison between administrators, faculty, parents, and community agencies.
  • Make referrals and follow-ups on individual health concerns.
  • Communicate health information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Administer medication and treatments according to district policy.
  • Plan and conduct health screening programs in cooperation with the district nurse.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student health records.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the school health facility and supplies.
  • Serve as a consultant for health education needs.
  • Participate in the development and revision of policies for the school health program.
