About The Position

This position is accountable for assisting in the development and monitoring of the District 6 Annual and Multi Year Highway Improvement Programs, with a primary emphasis on the Annual Program. Essential Functions Works with the District 6 staff, Office of Planning and Programming, and the Bureau of Operations to develop and deliver the projects in the Statewide Annual Line Items. Assists in preparation of program revisions, program carryovers, and letting coordination. Prepares reports and spreadsheets for the Annual Program monitoring and accomplishments. Analyzes and develops recommendations to upper management for resolving funding and project implementation issues for the Statewide Annual Maintenance Programs. Reviews Programming guidelines and coordinates with the district and the Bureaus of Planning and Programming staff on proposals. Assists with the development of the Multi-year Program and scoping activities. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Overtime.
  • Occasional districtwide travel.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of roadway and bridge design components.
  • Knowledge of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) overall program development and specific project planning and design processes.
  • Ability to use database and spreadsheet computer applications, including data entry, data organization, and report development.
  • Ability to manage workflow to coordinate multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with both district and IDOT central office staff.
