About The Position

Wieland is hiring an Annealing Furnace Operator. The Annealing Furnace Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring furnaces to soften metal, ensuring it meets customer specifications and quality standards. Their duties include loading and unloading coils, performing quality checks, maintaining production logs, and ensuring the furnace is running efficiently to meet production goals. This role is located in Waterbury, CT and will be fully on-site.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English. Ability to maintain production records and logs.
  • Employment record reflecting reliability. Above average attendance.
  • Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and organizational ability.
  • Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as described in the appropriate JSP (Job Safety Practice)
  • Comply with all Wieland safety rules and regulations.
  • Read, understand, and follow all Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Detect and report faulty operations, improper material and unusual conditions to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Set-up and operate Strip Annealing Equipment. Continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications. Set speed, atmospheric and combustion controls as required.
  • Add weights to and remove weights from tensioning device to ensure proper tracking and quality output from the machine.
  • Continuously monitor such factors as temperature and combustion controls.
  • Inspect strip for surface defects.
  • Run sample tests to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product.
  • Check material for surface finish or other properties and communicate with metrology lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications.
  • Move material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks.
  • Direct the work of one or more helpers or assistant operators to maximize machine uptime, quality, and productivity.
  • Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required or directed.
  • Become proficient in using Wieland Factory Suite (WFS)
