About The Position

As a Animal Treatment Tech, you will work closely with the veterinary technician and veterinarian staff to help ensure the clinic operates efficiently and that the utmost care is provided to the non-human primates on site. Job duties will include treatment preparation, data entry into our animal management system, contributing to the cleanliness and organization of the clinic, assisting veterinary staff with basic clinical skills, and more.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 2 years’ related experience required or experience with small/large/food animal clinical practice or production.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient with animal management systems.
  • Proof of measles vaccination or updated titers prior to initial contact with animals.
  • Current results of TB testing or be tested prior to initial contact with animals. Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees.
  • Employees may occasionally need to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity to handle potentially hazardous chemicals, cleaners, biologics (including, but not limited to direct handling of human byproducts and viruses) and/or sharps.
  • Required to shower into barrier animal facilities and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.
  • Has the ability to withstand ambient temperatures which may exceed 90°F.
  • Personnel must be able to carry out the essential functions of this position with reasonable accommodation if disabled.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care for the animals while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Perform daily treatment preparation in rotation with veterinary technical staff.
  • Assist with clinical observations for hospital and colony animals, which may include assessment of outdoor group housed animals.
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technical staff with treatment administration (oral, subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM)) and basic technical skills such as SC fluid administration,
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technical staff with the set up of: treatment tables, minor surgical procedures, weight/BCS assessments, and radiographic imaging.
  • Assist the veterinarians and technical staff with data entry to include: new patient entry in IAMS, recording of weights/BCS, fecal scores, diagnostic sample submission.
  • Maintains the hospital in a neat and sanitary condition, including updating the required log.
  • Maintains inventory – restocking treatment/procedure rooms as needed.
  • Independently reads and understands relevant guidelines, policies, and SOPs.
  • Complies with all regulatory guidelines, occupational health as well as health and safety programs, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
