Requirements

  • License/Registration/Certification Not applicable
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • The employee must successfully pass the orientation and annual competencies established for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes small and large animal rooms, pens and cages (including racks).
  • Ensures all animals have adequate food and water at all times.
  • Ensures that all aspects of animal care as outlined in standard operating procedures are carried out properly (e.g. routine period treatment, weights).
  • Assists the Animal Technologist to ensure that documentation of animal records including all aspects of animal care are properly completed.
  • Assists the Animal Technologist in visually inspecting new animals upon arrival.
  • Assists the Animal Technologist in the daily visual examination of all animals.
  • Assists the Animal Technologist with physical examinations, administration of medication, technical support and treatment as required.
  • Assists the Animal Technologist in weighing and assigning housing to new animals.
  • Ensures animals are fasted prior to experimentation when required.
  • Assists the Animal Technologist in seminars when required.
