About the position

University Animal Care at the University of Arizona is in search of an Animal Technician III. Incumbents are responsible for providing the daily care for a variety of research animal species, animals exposed to hazardous materials and/or assigned additional cage wash duties such as operating complex equipment, and perform detailed documentation of these activities. Incumbents are generally assigned to perform animal care duties within one facility and perform the required Cage Wash Activities specific to a facility utilizing disposable caging. Work is performed under minimal supervision with assigned general expectations. The work schedule includes participation in the Animal Care holiday rotation schedule, weekends, and may include compensated overtime. University Animal Care is responsible for providing the highest quality humane care to a variety of species of animals used in Biomedical research at the University of Arizona.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to laboratory rodents: feed, water, changing cages, and health assessments on a daily basis.
  • Perform basic breeding colony tasks, such as separating breeders and weaning litters.
  • Perform cage wash duties, bagging and consolidation of caging for recycle, trash removal, disinfection of carts/racks.
  • Set up clean caging for use in rooms, stocking store room, etc.
  • Administer treatments to animals as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Complete necessary documentation daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
