About The Position

The Pet Service Specialist at the Animal Defense League of Texas is a part-time role focused on the daily care and enrichment of animals in a shelter environment. This position involves cleaning and sanitizing kennels, providing food and medical care, and ensuring the well-being of the animals until they are adopted. The specialist will also assist in customer interactions, helping potential adopters find suitable pets and educating them on responsible pet ownership.

Requirements

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of customer service experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Documented experience working with animals and knowledge of companion animal behavior preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of kennels and associated equipment
  • Ensures food, water, enrichment and medical care is provided to canines on a daily basis
  • Maintains proper PPE usage and strictly follows the medical program policies and procedures regarding animal care
  • Routinely checks animals and reports animal medical concerns to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Ensures pets are getting proper exercise and minimum number of daily walks in addition to facilitating canine play groups
  • Assists PSS Lead with vaccinations and distribution of meds and monthly prevention
  • Follows all policies and procedures regarding chemical safety and animal handling
  • Works with PSS Lead and Supervisor to maintain building upkeep and alerts supervisors of any issues
  • Exudes excellent customer service when interacting with all visitors that enter the facility
  • Matchmakes potential adopters with pets that would be a great fit for their lifestyle based on adopter and pets needs
  • Educates visitors and potential adopters on basic tenets of responsible pet ownership
  • Attends monthly training days with PSS lead to go over individual goals and feedback
  • Attend offsite events with Community Outreach Coordinator as needed
  • Update animal bios on kennel card and in shelter data system and captures new photos
  • Collaborate with all managers, supervisors, staff and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Flexible in covering shifts based on organizational requirements and business demands
  • All other duties as assigned and needed to support adoptions and all ADL functions
