About The Position
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Shelter Officer to join our team to support Animal Management’s primary focus of keeping Aucklanders safe from animal related nuisance and harm. This shelter officer role is essential in ensuring the well-being of all dogs in our shelter. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Ensure all animals receive proper care, including feeding, exercise, and enrichment activities. Ability to assist the vet with various tasks including euthanasias. Maintain a clean and safe environment for all shelter animals. Reunite lost dogs with their owners and work with dogs that may have behavioural challenges. Assist with office tasks such as processing paperwork, facilitating adoptions and educational initiatives. Build and maintain exceptional relationships with both internal and external customers. Follow up on the requirements imposed by the Dog Control Act 1996. This is a physically demanding role that requires you to be on your feet for most of the day and involves significant cleaning duties. It is also a highly rewarding role where you will work in a small team with other like-minded people whilst contributing positively to the lives of dogs and their owners. There is room for professional development within the wider Animal Management unit.
