About The Position

The Animal Services Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the volunteer program within the Baltimore County Animal Services. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in recruitment and supervision of a volunteer team.
  • Kennel experience or experience in an open admission animal shelter is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and mid-level administrative experience.
  • Supervising experience and knowledge of animal welfare.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in animal handling or animal welfare.
  • Knowledge of public animal sheltering principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Baltimore County Animal Services volunteer program.
  • Recruit, interview, train, place, and supervise volunteers.
  • Ensure volunteers' skills and availability match appropriate opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and foster positive volunteer relationships.
  • Provide clear communication to community members seeking volunteer opportunities.
  • Identify specific volunteer positions and qualifications needed in collaboration with supervisors.
  • Promote and recruit volunteers through social media and community events.
  • Develop and review policies and procedures for the volunteer program.
  • Monitor and update the volunteer website with current program information.
  • Compile statistics and prepare monthly reports regarding program activities.
  • Develop and implement recruitment, training, mentorship, and retention strategies for volunteers.
  • Review volunteer applications and determine appropriate placements.
  • Design and conduct orientation and training programs for volunteers.
  • Create program materials such as applications, handbooks, and newsletters.
  • Establish volunteer schedules and monitor attendance.
  • Supervise daily activities and address concerns from volunteers.
  • Assist the Events and Foster Coordinator with volunteer supervision.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Assistant Events and Volunteer Coordinator.
