About the position

Under the general direction of the Animal Services Supervisor, the Animal Services Officer provides respectful, courteous, and friendly customer service to all residents, business owners, and property owners while enforcing Town ordinances and ensuring compliance of regulations pertaining to the animal control ordinance. The candidate displays composure, a helpful attitude, integrity, and professionalism in all circumstances, including stressful and other adverse conditions. Primary duties include Animal Services duties including but not limited to: assisting in the animal shelter, assisting in the receiving, redeeming and adoption of animals at the shelter, also includes investigation of animal complaints and animal bites, patrols Town and impounds stray or injured animals, and removal of dead animals from the roadway. Activities include responding to complaints, writing reports, conducting investigations, research, providing staff support, providing education and awareness to the public, maintaining records, public presentations, general office duties, and other duties as assigned, all in conformance with State and Town law. Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful, courteous, and friendly customer service.
  • Enforce Town ordinances and ensure compliance with animal control regulations.
  • Assist in the animal shelter, including receiving, redeeming, and adopting animals.
  • Investigate animal complaints and animal bites.
  • Patrol Town and impound stray or injured animals.
  • Remove dead animals from the roadway.
  • Respond to complaints and write reports.
  • Conduct investigations and research.
  • Provide education and awareness to the public.
  • Maintain records and perform general office duties.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Coordinate related projects with other Town departments and outside agencies.
  • Adhere to personnel, safety, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Maintain on-call status.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • One or more years of animal control work or related experience preferred.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Basic Animal Control Officer Certification preferred or the ability to complete within six months of employment.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual communicative skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal care and handling principles.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing methods.
  • Skilled in caring for animals and handling difficult animals.
  • Ability to issue citations and violations in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
