About The Position

The Animal Services Officer position is a full-time role within the City's Neighborhood Services Department, responsible for enforcing animal-related ordinances and state animal laws in Missouri City, TX. The officer will respond to service calls, manage animal control issues, and ensure compliance with local and state regulations regarding animal welfare. This role requires effective communication with the public and various agencies, as well as the ability to handle animals safely and humanely.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Euthanasia Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Animal Services Officer (ASO) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls for service regarding animal control issues.
  • Issues warnings and citations for violations of animal control ordinances.
  • Impounds animals and wildlife traps as necessary.
  • Conducts rabies quarantine and testing.
  • Supports shelter operations with sanitation of the facility when needed.
  • Ensures animals receive the minimum state-required treatment and necessary resources such as food, water, and shelter.
  • Uses the least amount of force necessary while maintaining control of the animal.
  • Investigates animal bite cases and prepares bite reports confirming details with the bite victim.
  • Notifies animal owners of incidents and issues quarantine notices.
  • Testifies in court as summoned regarding animal control cases.
  • Conducts investigations of cruelty, neglect, abuse, noise, and bite cases.
  • Partners with prosecutorial agencies to follow up on complaint investigations.
  • Educates the public on animal welfare, care, and safety.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of files, records, and reports following established procedures.
  • Coordinates with other agencies as needed and prepares monthly and annual statistical reports.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule and complies with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.
  • Possesses the ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and handle equipment and animals safely.
