An Animal Husbandry Technician job is available in the Laboratory of General intelligence and Computation (LOGIC), directed by Prof. Saurabh Vyas, within the Neuroscience Institute. You can view the labs' website via this link: https://smvyas.github.io/ We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized individual to join our research team studying the neurobiology of higher-order logical reasoning. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on cutting-edge neuroscience research. This position will aid in and administer veterinary medical procedures, collection of biological samples, administration of medications, and maintain accurate records, as well as provide husbandry and care of NHP laboratory animals. The position requires a dedication to animal welfare and well-being, while helping with the day-to-day operations in the lab, working with coordination between the researchers, facility staff, and veterinarian. Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED required, Associate's degree or similar field is preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience in the domain of animal health
  • Working knowledge of animal husbandry practices and procedures for common laboratory animals.
  • Ability to load and unload caging and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work directly with laboratory animals and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the species, animal housing conditions, and work area.
  • A combination of education and significant experience from which knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
  • Successful background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience caring for non-human primates (NHP) is valued but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Psychological enrichment of animals.
  • Administering medications and treatments to animals.
  • Assist in performing veterinary technical procedures under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Provide support for the daily operations of the animal facility, including animal husbandry and cleaning and sanitizing caging and housing.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting areas within the facility according to standard operating procedures and regulations.
  • Using and monitoring sanitation equipment such as cage washer and autoclave.
  • Assisting researchers and the veterinarian as needed.
  • Maintaining facility equipment and reporting problems.
  • Daily monitoring and documentation of animals' health and environmental conditions.
