The position involves apprehending and retaining stray and unlicensed dogs, cats, and other animals to protect the public by enforcing applicable animal control ordinances of the State, County, and local municipalities. The role requires investigating complaints concerning stray, vicious, sick or injured animals and reports of cruelty to animals, issuing citations to owners in violation of animal control regulations, and preparing reports needed for legal action. The incumbent will also respond to removal orders, explain reasons for removal of animals, vaccinate and/or tranquilize animals, and may assist in euthanasia. Additionally, the position involves maintaining equipment used in capturing and securing animals, including a County vehicle, and requires regular and predictable attendance.
