About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position. Incumbent maintains all aspects of animal protection and control in compliance with Tribal Code and local law, ensures complaints are handled efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • The position typically requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must successfully clear a criminal background check
  • Must successfully complete a reserve accredited Law Enforcement Academy within one year of hire.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance.
  • Must possess First Aid/CPR certification or have the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check including psychological and polygraph testing.
  • Must be able to maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties
  • Pass mandatory Drug Test after orientation
  • CPR/First Aide Certification within 1st year
  • Pass random drug tests
  • Maintain confidentiality, as this is a safety sensitive position at all times.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, and or shift schedules to accommodate the needs of the Colville Tribe Police Department.
  • Incumbent must be knowledgeable of geographical layout, culture, and lifestyles of the reservation
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to elicit information from upset or irate citizens
  • Must be skilled driver in adverse weather conditions.
  • Requires to establish and maintain effective working relations with community members, public or private sector.
  • Requires to establish and maintain good working relations with other law enforcement agencies and personnel.
  • Requires to effectively communicate with citizens including the ability to elicit information from upset and irate citizens; exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in a calm manner.
  • Requires to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely both oral and written information.
  • Job may include sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Requires to operate assigned equipment that falls under the Tribal Police Department.
  • Requires the ability to drive in adverse weather conditions.
  • Requires to be mandated to complete a reserve accredited Law Enforcement Academy within one year of hire if course is available or deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
  • Will be required to work various hours (Holidays & Weekends) to ensure animals are cared for while be held at the CCT Police Department Kennel.
  • Requires to be able to use firearms and qualify with the Tribal Police Department Fire Arms policy if deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
  • Requires incumbent must possess ability to enforce Tribal and local law; adhere to safe work practices; learn basic animal control and care principles and procedures; maintain standards of professionalism and effective public relations as a representative of Tribal Police Department.
  • Requires to endure verbal and emotional abuse when encountering individuals in an antagonistic situation; interact tactfully and effectively with various culture and ethnic groups; maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Requires to operate various equipment including assigned vehicle, animal trapping equipment (traps, catch poles), radio, cellular phone, first aid equipment, self-defense weapons (spray, etc.), baton, bite stick, computer, and camera.
  • Requires to be able to possess ability to analyze problems and have potential for rationally and calmly taking appropriate action in both routine and non-routine situations.
  • Requires to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in a variety of circumstances.
  • Requires to work flexible schedule including holidays and weekends to care for kenneled animals and as the work dictates.
