About The Position

The Animal Control Dispatcher (ACD) is responsible for managing incoming requests for animal control services, prioritizing and dispatching these requests to appropriate personnel, and maintaining communication with Animal Control Officers (ACOs). The role requires effective interaction with the public, documentation of service requests, and compliance with city ordinances. The ACD plays a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of animals and providing excellent customer service while handling potentially stressful situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn applicable laws and ordinances related to animal control.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to operate two-way radios and other communication devices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the city of Philadelphia.
  • Experience with Pet Point Animal Management System or similar software.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming calls for requests for service regarding stray or unwanted animals.
  • Prioritize requests for service based on urgency and nature of the complaint.
  • Document complaints and requests for service accurately, including caller information and incident details.
  • Assign requests for service to Animal Control Officers (ACOs).
  • Communicate pertinent information about requests for service to appropriate staff.
  • Log movement of all ACOs on the road and maintain awareness of their location.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding city ordinances and laws related to animal control.
  • Refer calls to other agencies when necessary.
  • Communicate with other city agencies for emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Gather information at ACOs request using various resources.
  • Arrange transport for sheltered animals to offsite locations.
  • Perform data entry for ACO paperwork, vaccination records, and other relevant documents.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor and provide good customer service to the public.
  • Assist in other departments or locations as needed.
