About The Position

The Animal Control Custodian is responsible for maintaining the City animal shelter and caring for impounded animals. This role involves cleaning the facility, providing care for the animals, and assisting with adoption processes. The custodian plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and clean environment for both the animals and the public.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• First Aid Certification preferred.
• Minimal animal-related experience (less than 6 months) required.
• Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• Animal CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Animal behavior, enrichment, and/or training classes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans the shelter, including kennels, cages, and runs throughout the day.
• Washes and dries laundry related to animal care.
• Cleans dishes used for animal feeding.
• Cleans the play yard after the animals.
• Performs general lawn care of the facility grounds.
• Cleans the office, walkways, and bathroom area of the shelter.
• Feeds, waters, grooms, and helps unload animals.
• Responds to inquiries regarding animals and answers basic questions on animal control activities.
• Performs general preventive maintenance on the equipment.
• Conducts meet and greets with potential adopters.
• Assists in taking adoption photos of the animals for social media platforms and adoption events.
• Assesses the behavior of the animals for adoption placement.
• Provides medication for sick animals as needed.
• Monitors animals while in the play yard.
• Monitors and restocks supplies.
• Assists police officers with the impoundment of animals.
• Fills out daily observation sheets on each animal and notifies animal control officers of abnormal behavior.
