The position involves active participation in safety and bio-security programs, including adherence to policies and ongoing training. Employees are expected to report any faulty equipment, maintain punctuality, and follow all company rules and procedures. Participation in mandatory meetings and system improvement teams is required, along with fostering good relationships with co-workers and being open to constructive criticism. The role includes various responsibilities related to animal care, including handling, medication, euthanasia, and sanitation, as well as following specific protocols for breeding and monitoring.

  • Take an active role in safety program including following safety procedures and enforcement of policy.
  • Participate in bio-security program including enforcement of policy and continued training.
  • Report any broken or faulty equipment to supervisor.
  • Meet company expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all rules and procedures from the employee handbook and supervisor.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and training.
  • Maintain good working relationships with co-workers.
  • Perform all required duties in a timely manner as outlined in the S.O.P.
  • Understand and demonstrate farm Bio-Security Requirements.
  • Achieve PQA+ (Pork Quality Assurance Training).
  • Demonstrate correct handling techniques for animals of all ages.
  • Demonstrate safe and efficient power washing techniques.
  • Handle and store medication correctly.
  • Demonstrate correct methods of euthanasia and dead animal disposal.
  • Treat and vaccinate animals of all ages.
  • Process piglets including castration.
  • Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation skills.
  • Demonstrate artificial insemination protocols under supervision.
  • Handle semen and detect heat in breeding sows and gilts.
  • Feed in breeding, gestation, and lactation.
  • Monitor sows in farrowing.
  • Care for piglets from day 0-3.
  • Sort and foster piglets.
  • Manage manure feedback.
  • Use prostaglandin correctly.
  • Follow all Bio-security and animal welfare procedures outlined by TriOak Foods.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50lbs and move up to 100 yards daily.
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. repeatedly for at least 1 hour.
  • Push and/or pull a minimum of 500 lbs. in a cart when required.
  • Squat to floor, grip small objects, and twist at least 45 degrees.
  • Be responsive to visible signs of animal discomfort and verbal alarms.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Move, load, and unload animals weighing 600 plus pounds.
  • Walk and stand for long periods on various surfaces.
  • Climb in and out of crates and over obstacles.
  • Climb different types of ladders including feed bin ladders.
  • Maintain balance on all surfaces.
  • Retain and perform written and spoken instructions.
  • Must not own or live near any swine or with anyone who has contact with swine.
