About The Position
Responsible for highly reliable work offering high standards of care and compassion illustrated through performance. Maintains strong work ethic and professionalism with strong attendance habits, and exercises proper sanitation practices with a focus on disease management and comfort for the animals. Must be able to work as part of a dynamic medical team and exhibit high standards of medical care, interpersonal skills, and professionalism. Prepares surgery room for high-quality and high-volume surgeries; performs all pre- and post-operative procedures for spay/neuter surgery, including but not limited to precursory assessment, induction of anesthesia, placement of endotracheal tube, insertion of microchip, administration of vaccinations and other medications, bladder expression, preparation of surgical site using aseptic practices, monitoring anesthesia for proper responses with ability to swiftly and efficiently perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts during emergencies; assists the Veterinarian during and throughout surgical procedures. Performs routine medical procedures (e.g., administering oral/injectable/topical medications, calculating medication dosages appropriately, performing blood draws, IV catheter placement and fluid therapy, bandaging, radiology, laboratory testing, triage, emergency care, and treatment for sick/injured animals). Performs humane and compassionate euthanasia for various animal species; prepares specimens for rabies testing through processes of decapitation. Medically processes adopted, incoming, and owner-reclaimed animals. Handles complex paperwork and precise data entry of medical records into a computerized system using shelter-specific software. Works with a variety of animals, including but not limited to livestock, horses, and exotic and small mammals. Attends various trainings to enhance skills and professional development; provides ongoing training and mentoring to newly hired staff and colleagues; provides excellent customer service and support to the community to instill positive relations and experiences.
