About The Position

The Division of Animal Resources, within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University's Field Station (Lawrenceville, Georgia), is currently seeking an Animal Care Supervisor to join our team. Our work consists of providing husbandry and care for a large colony of nonhuman primates in an open campus type setting. In addition to the husbandry and care duties and responsibilities, supervisors are also trained to assist veterinary staff, colony management staff, and behavioral management staff. Once trained, Animal Care Supervisors are assigned to an alternating weekend and holiday schedule. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, extremely dependable, reliable, detail-oriented, and possess a positive attitude and passion for animal care in a research environment. The Animal Care Supervisor will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with coworkers and other departments at the facility. The Animal Care Supervisor will work to ensure the highest quality of husbandry and care. Efficient and effective communication skills with co-workers, the management team, PI’s, research staff, students, and other support services is also required. Collaborate. Innovate. Serve. Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent.
Four years of animal husbandry or related animal care experience, which must include one year of laboratory animal experience and one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

Supervises the daily operation of one large animal care facility or multiple small facilities.
Assists investigative and veterinary staff.
Observes animals for signs of illness, trauma, or social instability and reports abnormalities to the appropriate veterinary staff. Monitors the administration of special diets and medication.
Supervises the maintenance of research animals, their cages, and facilities.
Ensures that the facility complies with federal animal and research regulations.
Collects medical specimens.
Trains and supervises staff.
Performs related responsibilities as required.

Performs other related duties as required.
