About The Position

The Animal Care Supervisor supervises the Animal Care Team, including daily functions, scheduling adjustments, motivating, evaluating, coaching and training. This is a working supervisor position that requires varied shifts, weekends, and some holidays. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in related field
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
  • Must have a positive attitude and collaborative, team-oriented leadership style
  • Able to meet physical requirements of the job as described below
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism and customer service
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead others

Responsibilities

  • Completes essential animal care tasks alongside the animal care team, including animal husbandry, enrichment and behavior modification, adopter meetings, volunteer and staff training, and animal transportation
  • Provides excellent customer service to all visitors, volunteers, and potential adopters
  • Responsible for delegation and maintaining efficient workflow throughout the day by overseeing completion of daily team tasks and scheduled breaks
  • Ensures the efficient flow of animals through the facilities by managing daily operations and transport
  • Works closely with leadership to ensure that appropriate capacity for care is maintained in all SPCA facilities where animals are housed
  • Works with staff to monitor the health and behavior of animals; recognizes and responds appropriately to animals with suspected illness
  • Works closely with other Operations teams to help create and support a cohesive and collaborative SPCA team environment
  • Helps ensure the safety of all employees, visitors and volunteers
  • Models Core Value-focused and appropriate behavior and interpersonal interactions with all staff and volunteers
  • Creates and supports a positive work environment for staff and volunteers by leading by example, holding team members accountable, and offering support and corrective action as needed
  • Identifies areas for improvement in animal care staff individual and team performance and provides coaching and adjustments to facilitate necessary changes
  • Oversees training and continued development of team members in conjunction with the Animal Care Manager
  • Maintains excellent communication with direct supervisor and the team; alerts direct supervisor to any potential concerns within the department
  • Provides guidance and intervenes as needed to resolve team, volunteer, and visitor concerns
