About The Position

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Animal Care Supervisor - Intake, to support the Animal Care Division Benefits of Broward County Employment High Deductible Health Plan - bi-weekly premiums: Single $10.90 / Family $80.79 Includes a County Funded Health Savings Account of up to $2400 Annually Consumer Driven Health Plan - bi-weekly premiums: Single $82.58 / Family $286.79 Florida Retirement System (FRS) - Pension or Investment Plan 457 Deferred Compensation employee match Eleven (11) paid holidays each year Vacation (Paid Time Off) = 2 weeks per year Up to 40 hours of Job Basis Leave for eligible positions Tuition Reimbursement (Up to 2K annually) General Description Performs supervisory work in the field of animal care and regulation and in the operation of kennel facilities. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. The key responsibilities of this position are to support efficient and appropriate intake of animals entering the shelter. This includes managing the intake processing, impound procedures, and customer service functions. This role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with the public, internal teams, and other agencies, coordinating the flow of animals into the shelter, out of the shelter and ensuring high standards of care and accurate documentation. The position also involves co supervising daily operations alongside the Alternative Placement Supervisor to ensure smooth collaboration between the Admissions, Kennel, and Medical teams. These concepts will include: - Supervising the Intake team and collaborating with the Alternative Placement Supervisor on implementation of related protocols and processes - Directly supervising all Customer Services Representatives (Intake) and indirectly overseeing all Administrative Coordinators (Alternative Placement) and other staff and volunteers assigned to Admissions. - Overseeing all admissions, impound, and intake/outcome processes, including stray intake, owner surrenders, RTF/TNR, reclaims, and managed intake. Support programs that prevent surrenders and promote pet retention. - Maintaining strong relationships with the public, animal control jurisdictions, law enforcement, and animal welfare organizations. - Ensuring team compliance with protocols and ordinances, and support clear communication across teams. - Managing staff time cards, time off requests, and shortages appropriately to guarantee adequate coverage of all assigned areas - Reviewing staff work for procedural or administrative accuracy; preparing and delivering performance evaluations when needed. - Monitoring and responding to team communications; ensuring timely and appropriate responses to public inquiries. - Coaching and mentoring staff, leading team huddles, mitigating staff complaints/issues as they arise, and initiating disciplinary action as required. - Recommending and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to improve internal processes and create efficiencies. - Planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services; preparing reports and ensuring accurate entry of animal records in the shelter's software. - Communicating and interacting with other shelter sections and the public; explaining policies and procedures when needed. - Participating in 'Daily Population Rounds' to monitor the behavioral and medical health of all shelter pets. - Assisting with pathway planning for all animals. - Performing related work as assigned. Applicants must be able to work during Emergency Declarations. Additionally, they must be Certified Euthanasia Technicians in the State of Florida or be able to obtain the certification within one year of employment

Requirements

  • Requires two (2) years in the professional care and control of animals in the field, a kennel or shelter facility and one (1) additional year of supervisory or leader worker experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.
  • Certification in Euthanasia and Chemical Capture (depending on area of assignment).
  • Certification as an Animal Control Officer (depending on area of assignment).
  • Applicants must be able to work during Emergency Declarations.
  • Certified Euthanasia Technicians in the State of Florida or be able to obtain the certification within one year of employment

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years experience working in a supervisory role in an animal related field
  • 1+ years experience working in pet retention programs, outreach efforts, or other community based programs.
  • 1+ years experience working with Chameleon.
  • Ability to speak and read Spanish and/or Creole.
