About The Position

As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care at Petco, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper care and husbandry of all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). This role involves being the primary resource for animal care and maintenance, supporting the PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals, and collaborating closely with the sales team to meet the needs of guests and their pets. A passion for animal welfare and effective teamwork is essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life.
  • High level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and aptitude for sales techniques.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor with a genuine interest in animals and their care.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and basic accounting relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC are receiving appropriate care.
  • Complete companion animal incident reports and hourly animal health checks as required.
  • Process register transactions to create a great experience for each guest.
  • Support guest interactions and ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed effectively.
  • Complete training programs to maintain expertise in animal care and educate other PCC partners.
  • Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.
  • Act as the primary resource for guests regarding animal education and care.
  • Order companion animals and aquatic life, supplies, and merchandise in partnership with the sales team.
  • Analyze inventory management data and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image of the animal habitats and aquatic areas.
  • Ensure proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts related to animals and aquatic life.
  • Adhere to and promote established safety and loss prevention procedures.
