About The Position

The Animal Care Program (ACP) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking to hire an ACP Technician (Veterinary Technician) at one of three levels (I, II, or III). The role involves providing essential animal care duties to support research activities, including general care and husbandry for various animal species, maintenance of equipment, and collection of research data. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including weekends, and the ability to work in various conditions. Higher-level positions (II and III) involve more skilled tasks and may include supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED for Technician I; Associate's degree for Technician II; Bachelor's degree for Technician III in animal science, veterinary technology, or related field.
  • 1 year of relevant experience for Technician III; equivalent experience/education considered for all levels.
  • Competent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and browsers.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years relevant experience for Technician I preferred.
  • 2-3 years relevant experience for Technician II preferred.
  • Experience with a research administration system desirable.
  • AALAS ALAT and/or Veterinary Technician License within 6 months for Technician II.
  • 3-4 years relevant experience for Technician III preferred.
  • Experience with NuRamp or similar research administration system desirable.
  • AALAS LAT and/or Veterinary Technician License within 1 year for Technician III.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general care and husbandry for multiple species of animals.
  • Maintain equipment used in animal care and research activities.
  • Collect and record research data accurately.
  • Oversee daily health care of animals (for Technician II and III).
  • Perform technical tasks related to animal care (for Technician II and III).
  • Occasionally supervise 1-6 employees or students (for Technician III).
  • Assist with the development of planning for the facility (for Technician III).
