About The Position

The Animal Care Operations Intern supports daily operations at the Crandall Bowles Children’s Farm and the Anne Springs Close Greenway Stables. This role provides hands-on experience in animal care, public programming, and educational outreach while working alongside Farm and Equestrian staff. Interns will assist with animal husbandry, educational presentations, camps, lessons, and special events both on and off-site. This internship offers meaningful opportunities to develop presentation skills, contribute to program development, and engage guests of all ages in hands-on learning experiences that connect people to animals, agriculture, and conservation. The Farm and Stables operate seven days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Intern schedules will include a combination of weekday and weekend shifts. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, punctuality and the ability to work well with others.
  • Knowledge of daily horse care (de worming, checking teeth and feet, lameness checks, icing/epsom salts)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of horse health, first aid and nutrition
  • Experience with feeding and watering of animals
  • Ability to pull horses and/or for and assisting farrier, vet, and chiropractor
  • Be outgoing, approachable and have a positive attitude
  • Must be able to thrive both independently and in a team setting
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Public speaking or performance experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily animal care, including feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and monitoring animal well-being under staff supervision
  • Support educational programs and public presentations for school groups, camps, birthday parties, and special events
  • Assist Equestrian staff with riding lessons, birthday parties, Exceptional Equestrian programs, and seasonal camps
  • Assist Farm staff with field trips, birthday parties, farm camps, and other youth programming initiatives
  • Help develop and implement enrichment activities that promote the physical and mental stimulation of farm and program animals
  • Contribute ideas toward program enhancement and assist with new activity development
  • Engage positively with guests of all ages and abilities, demonstrating professionalism and enthusiasm in high-traffic, group-oriented environments
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for animals, participants, and guests
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall Farm and Stables operations
