Ready for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity working alongside a variety of species? The Animal Ambassador Team Internship at ZooTampa offers hands-on experience in animal care, behavioral training, and real-time conservation education. From collecting behavioral data to creating enrichment and engaging with guests, every day is a chance to grow personally and professionally in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. If you're passionate, hardworking, and eager to learn, we want to hear from you! While working in the Animal Ambassador Program Internship, Interns will focus on developing their skills in the care and husbandry of a mixed species collection in the Animal Ambassador department. Species include domesticated livestock, small and medium-sized exotic mammals, parrots, birds of prey, amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles. Interns will also assist with animal shows behind the scenes and with some public interactions. This internship will focus on teaching positive reinforcement operant conditioning training techniques as it pertains to animal interactions as well as medical and husbandry procedures. In addition, they will learn about animal presentations and interpretation and the importance of delivering a strong conservation message. There is an online course to supplement and expand upon the in-person experiences gained during this internship.
