About The Position

Here at SPCA Florida, our goal is to give animals a better life with a forever home, and we need a team of caring, passionate dog lovers to achieve that. We are currently seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals who are committed to the happiness and safety of animals. This is a part-time position – four (4) days a week – shifts will be 8:30 – 1:30. We work together every day to make a difference in the lives of animals. The Canine Team is responsible for the overall care of all the canines within our shelter by providing food, water, and a clean environment. Job duties include but are not limited to the daily cleaning of animal areas, feeding, monitoring animal health, and assisting the public with general information and adoptions. Must be compassionate and have a positive attitude. Must have customer service skills and act as a spokesperson for the organization to promote our purpose and our programs to the public.

Requirements

  • Able to perform physical work, including scrubbing, mopping, lifting, walking, and bending.
  • Potential for standing on feet for 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance and maintain control of dogs as large as 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities encompassing both administrative and operational.
  • Potential for exposure to dangerous and fractious animals
  • Potential exposure to high noise levels when in the kennel area
  • Potential for animal bites and scratches while handling animals.
  • Must be available a minimum of 20 hours per week.
  • Must be available for adjusting shifts – four (4) days a week
  • Times of shifts – 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
  • SPCA Florida is open seven (7) days a week; therefore, weekends and holidays are mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans cages and runs to maintain sanitation standards and the health of the animals.
  • Walks dogs multiple times per day.
  • Facilitates visits and interactions with potential adopters.
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as laundry and dishes.
  • Baths animals as needed.
  • Reports signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to the Adoption Center Medical Team.
  • Completes disease control and cleaning of public areas throughout the day.
  • Learns basic duties of other departments and supports other departments and staff, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.
