Requirements

  • Solid horse sense — equine experience is a must! You’re confident leading, tacking, and working around horses.
  • 2+ years of hands-on barn experience in a professional or structured setting.
  • Comfortable flying solo in a barn environment — you’re independent and reliable.
  • Know-how in animal care, feeding, safety, blanketing, first aid and stable maintenance.
  • Willingness to work outside in all kinds of New England weather — rain, shine, snow, or mud!
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly (think feed bags, hay bales, and water buckets)
  • Bending, squatting, mucking, hauling, raking, pushing wheelbarrows – you get the picture
  • Working in a barn environment (yes, there’s dirt, dust, and the occasional goat who thinks you’re part of the furniture)

Nice To Haves

  • Bonus points if you’ve worked with individuals with disabilities or adaptive equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Open or close the barn with confidence — you’re the first in and the last out!
  • Lead fun, hands-on animal care activities with our program participants.
  • Feed and care for horses and small animals with love and precision.
  • Clean stalls, scrub water buckets, muck and rake like a pro, and maintain safe, happy habitats for all.
  • Prep horses for programs: tacking, untacking, brushing, and hoof-picking included!
  • Administer routine medications (we’ll train you) under the guidance of our Equestrian Center Director or Vet.
  • Be ready to jump in for backup coverage when needed — team spirit required!
