About The Position

The Animal Care Attendant at the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center (MCASAC) plays a crucial role in providing high-quality sheltering and care for homeless, abused, and neglected animals. This position involves maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for both animals and people, ensuring that all animals' nutritional, housing, and basic medical needs are met daily. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal welfare and capable of following instructions while working effectively with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class 'C' driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle animals of all sizes and temperaments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in animal handling and care in a shelter or kennel environment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing animal holding areas.
  • Experience administering medications to animals.
  • Familiarity with 'Fear Free' handling methods.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people.
  • Provide humane handling and care for all shelter animals.
  • Ensure all animals' nutrition, housing, and basic medical needs are met daily.
  • Assist the public with animal admissions and adoptions, promoting responsible pet ownership.
  • Handle animals of various sizes and temperaments, including those that may be ill or aggressive.
  • Thoroughly clean kennels, cages, and common areas, including removing waste and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Prepare food and provide water for shelter animals.
  • Wash and sanitize feeding equipment and bedding.
  • Monitor sick, quarantined, and injured animals for unusual conditions.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by a veterinarian and maintain health logs.
  • Perform initial health assessments and administer routine vaccinations.
  • Participate in the euthanasia process as needed.
  • Socialize and exercise shelter animals daily.
  • Operate power cleaning equipment and maintain cleanliness standards.
