About The Position

The position involves cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining kennels and related areas of the Animal Services Shelter. Responsibilities include receiving, feeding, caring for, and administering euthanasia to animals, as well as assisting the public in claiming or adopting animals and performing related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Any combination equivalent to experience and training that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Six (6) months experience involving customer contact.
  • Six (6) months experience in handling animals.
  • Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) Grade or High School equivalency.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels and related areas of the Animal Services Shelter.
  • Receive, feed, care for, and administer euthanasia to animals.
  • Assist the public in claiming or adopting animals.
  • Evaluate behavior, adopt, redeem, and perform euthanasia on impounded animals.
  • Isolate animals showing signs of disease from healthy ones.
  • Vaccinate animals as they are received and administer medicine under veterinarian instructions.
  • Prepare identification collars for animals for accurate records.
  • Respond to public inquiries about animal breeds, temperament, and adoptions.
  • Advise the public on appropriate choices for adoption and proper care of animals.
  • Maintain a computerized log and record of all animals at the shelter.
  • Report any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
  • Maintain inventories and supplies of food, medicines, and controlled drugs.
  • Assist in supervising volunteers.
  • Lift and load animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
