About The Position

The Animal Care Assistant is responsible for the daily care and welfare of animals at the Animal Care & Control facility. This role involves feeding, grooming, exercising, and monitoring the health of animals, as well as performing general housekeeping duties within the shelter. The position requires a compassionate approach to animal care and the ability to handle various animal behaviors and health issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET) or obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.
  • Knowledge of basic animal welfare standards and safe animal handling procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in animal care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate food and water to animals.
  • Groom, bathe, and exercise animals.
  • Monitor the behavior and health of animals and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties of the shelter, including cleaning animal cages and runs.
  • Assist shelter patrons and animal control officers with animal handling and transfers.
  • Maintain animal care reports and documentation, including daily log sheets and inventories.
  • Respond to patron inquiries related to animal health education and provide humane education materials.
  • Assist with animal intake, evaluation, and medical treatments as directed.
