About The Position

Provide vital direct support for both survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking and their pets at Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center. Key responsibilities include ensuring comprehensive, trauma-informed services, maintaining shelter safety, and assisting with animal care.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of animal behavior and welfare principles.
  • Strong empathy and sensitivity towards both human and animal victims of domestic violence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with both shelter residents and animals.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in public health, animal science, or a related field is preferred
  • Previous experience working with animals, especially in a shelter or rescue environment, is highly desirable.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid for both humans and animals is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed support to survivors, including assessments, safety planning, and referrals
  • Responsible for maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of pets in shelter care, maintaining cleanliness in kennels and animal facilities in shelter.
  • Collaborate with pet owners to ensure cleanliness, sufficient food and water, exercise, and engaging activities for pets.
  • Complete documentation in accordance with agency policy.
  • Assist with supporting volunteers engaged in kennel operations as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adheres to Service Excellence standards at all times.
  • Represent Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by supervisor.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF standards and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
