About The Position

The position involves learning and developing individual skills based on work requirements in the designated work area. Employees will work in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to animals, with 100% supervision for the first 30 days of employment. After 90 days, a determination will be made regarding the transition to Animal Care Technician 2 based on supervision levels. Responsibilities include basic sow and gilt handling, operating machinery and equipment, assisting with farrowing and breeding, handling chemicals, vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets, and maintaining farm cleanliness while adhering to biosecurity standards.

Requirements

• Previous animal care experience preferred but not required.
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, and positive individual with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to learn or have technology knowledge related to hand-held devices and other necessary equipment.
• Willingness to work weekend and holiday hours on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities

• Learn and develop individual skills based on work requirements.
• Work in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to animals.
• Handle basic sow/gilt tasks such as feeding, watering, and moving.
• Operate machinery and equipment as needed.
• Assist with farrowing (birth) and breeding (artificial insemination).
• Handle and use chemicals safely.
• Vaccinate and medicate sows and piglets.
• Clean afterbirth and dead pigs, and scrape as necessary.
• Use computer equipment, including hand-held devices and electronic wands.
• Load and unload pigs as scheduled.
• Maintain cleanliness of the farm.
• Adhere to all biosecurity standards, including showering in and out of facilities.
