About The Position

The Animal Adoption Counselor at LifeLine Animal Project is responsible for guiding the public through the pet adoption process, ensuring that potential adopters are well-informed and that all necessary procedures are followed. This role involves reviewing applications, providing information about pet care, and promoting the adoption of animals through various outreach efforts.

Requirements

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Extensive knowledge of dog and cat behavior and training.
• Knowledge in animal health and well-being, including nutrition and common diseases.
• Ability to identify animal species, breeds, ages, and signs of illness or injury.
• Demonstrated personal communication skills, including effective phone skills and public speaking.
• Must be available to work on weekends.
• Must pass background check and drug screening.
• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
• One+ years' experience in an animal-related field preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Language skills in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Counsel the public about potential pets for adoption.
• Review adoption applications based on written guidelines.
• Receive adoption fees and update the software system with necessary information.
• Take photos and create social media posts to promote adoptions.
• Answer emails and phone calls from the public regarding pets for adoption.
• Provide information on housetraining, veterinary care, and pet-related information.
• Approve or deny adoption applications professionally and ask clarifying questions as needed.
• Write clinic transfer paperwork for adopted animals to ensure they are spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
• Input all necessary adoption information into the software system and print required paperwork.
• Handle adoption fees and perform cash box closing for the adoption cash box.
• Call adopters to inform them when their adopted pet is ready for pickup.
• Assist with owner surrender counseling and cleaning when needed.
• Promote LifeLine Animal Project's policies and philosophies.
