About the position

The position involves responding to the anesthetic needs of patients and coordinating their care with other perioperative personnel during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. The individual will administer anesthesia services to patients for medical and surgical procedures relevant to the facility under the medical direction of a staff anesthesiologist. Additionally, the role requires responding to emergent airway management within the facility as needed, and may involve being on-call, either in-house or from home, as required by the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist and discusses plan and risks, benefits, and options with the patient.
  • Performs special line placement procedures including intravenous and arterial line insertion.
  • Documents appropriate data on pre-anesthesia assessment and intraoperative anesthesia care, including vital signs, drug deliveries, fluid and blood deliveries, and controlled substance disbursement.
  • Maintains age-specific competence in anesthesia technical skills such as airway management, induction, blocks, and general anesthesia.
  • Maintains and acquires new knowledge of anesthesia pharmacology, modalities, techniques, and technology.
  • Provides a safe practice environment by minimizing risks of infection, physical injury, psychological stress, and equipment failure.
  • Performs Point of Care testing as required by regulatory requirements and organization policy.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia
  • SC RN- Advance Practice certification
  • CRNA- Nurse Anesthetist certification
  • Mathematical skills
  • Ability to use patient equipment (Vitals, Suction, Defib)

Nice-to-haves

  • CRNA graduates before December 31, 2003 from an accredited program for nurse anesthetists
