About The Position

The position is for an Anesthesiologist Assistant within the Advocate Health system, specifically in the Anesthesiology department. The schedule offers flexibility with options for (4) 10-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with no call, weekends, or holidays. Requirements

  • Anesthesiologist Assistant license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA-C) certification from the NCCAA to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Master's Degree in Anesthesia.
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides anesthesia services under the direction of an anesthesiologist, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care.
  • Induces and maintains anesthesia at required levels and supports life functions during anesthesia administration.
  • Records all pertinent events during anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Recognizes and takes corrective action for abnormal patient responses to anesthesia.
  • Performs pre-anesthesia functions, ensuring appropriate examinations and tests are completed.
  • Checks readiness and working conditions of all equipment used in anesthesia administration.
  • Remains with the patient post-anesthesia until it is safe to transfer care.
  • Advises post-anesthetic care personnel of specific patient problems.
  • Administers post-operative pain relief in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Responsible for narcotic medication accounting and distribution.
  • Responds to life-threatening emergencies by establishing and maintaining an airway.
  • Assists nursing units with difficult IV insertions when requested.
  • Provides work direction to anesthesiologist assistant students.
  • Performs patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring physical lifting and pushing/pulling.
