About The Position

As a Pediatric Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA), working under the supervision of attending anesthesiologists, you will play a vital role as a part of the anesthesia care team by administering anesthesia primarily to pediatric surgery patients under the age of 18. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia to pediatric patients. In this role, you will work closely with the anesthesia team including anesthesiologist assistants, resident physicians, UT approved students, surgical team and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to the specific needs of each pediatric patient. You will collaborate with attending anesthesiologists to prepare and administer anesthetic agents, carefully monitor patients' vital signs and bodily functions, and adjust anesthesia levels as necessary throughout medical or surgical procedures. Your commitment to patient safety, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential as you navigate complex cases and manage any potential complications that may arise. Requirements

  • Current National Commission for Certification of Anesthesia Assistants (NCCAA) certification.
  • ACLS and PALS certification.
  • Skilled in the use of state-of-the-art patient monitoring techniques in anesthesia care environments.
  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited, two-year Anesthesia Assistant program.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of an anesthesiologist, administer the prescribed anesthetic to patients to desensitize them for medical or surgical procedures.
  • Obtain an extensive pre-anesthetic patient health history and perform pre-anesthetic physical examinations.
  • Establish multi-parameter monitoring prior to anesthesia or in other acute care settings.
  • Perform initial CPR/ACLS in emergency situations until the supervising anesthesiologist is summoned.
  • Utilize advanced treatment modalities including advanced airway interventions and intubation of the trachea.
  • Assist in the post-operative care of patients by managing post-op ventilator support and acute pain management.
  • Engage in teaching and research functions as deemed appropriate by the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
