Responsibilities: Performs a variety of technical assignments for the Department of Anesthesiology, exercising a high degree of skill, judgment and knowledge of the terminology, common procedures and practices of the assigned area. Performs set-up of medications and supplies in both the work room and mobile carts, and anesthesia equipment set-up and trouble shooting. Position has occasional patient contact. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists anesthesia providers, including preparation of anesthesia equipment prior to the patient’s arrival, placement of equipment in the operating rooms, ensuring cleanliness of anesthesia equipment, setting up cart and machine with supplies and medications based on case variables such as patient age, case type and case length, between cases and at the end of the day in each operating room, work room and supply cart. Ensures availability of specialized anesthesia supplies required for cases in designated operating rooms. Maintains and performs moderate to advanced set ups, calibrations, operations and troubleshooting of all anesthesia equipment according to the instructions of the equipment and department protocols. Checks and replaces anesthesia gas tanks as needed. Performs machine and circuit leak checks on all types of anesthesia machines in the organization. Participates in the Cell Saver, Trauma and, Liver Transplant programs, including on-call procedures. Operates rapid infusion devices in Trauma and Transplant cases, as needed. Performs set-up and support of ectopic procedures for anesthesia care, ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures. Functions as a resource and support person for Anesthesiology providers. Assists with sterile procedures, including central line placement, Swan-Ganz placements, and blood transfusions. Assists during DART calls and any other difficult airway requiring equipment setup and auxiliary assistance to a provider. Other duties as assigned.
