About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician works under the supervision of the Manager, Anesthesia Services and performs a variety of equipment and supply related tasks. Provides diagnostic and treatment services during regular recurring critical care situations: set up, check, inspect, maintain and calibrate a variety of anesthesia equipment. Performs various anesthesia specialized treatment procedures that will significantly affect the accuracy and reliability of further processes associated with the anesthetic course of the patient. The Anesthesia Technician will follow all standards regarding safety of all patients, staff and self. In addition, all work areas are to be stocked according to levels, clean and organized. The Anesthesia Technician is also responsible for demonstrating a positive, collaborative attitude, and being respectful to all patients, family and staff. The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Anesthesia Technician functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the James Operating Rooms and other approved anesthetizing locations including the James OR rooms, radiation oncology, interventional radiology. The team reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team consisting of registered nurses, surgical technologist, anesthesiologist, perioperative tech and surgeon provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcomes, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Additionally, the Anesthesia Technician is responsible for coordinating Anesthesia and Auto transfusion services, including technical and logistical support to the physicians and hospital staff for surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
  • 3 months patient care experience or equivalent
  • 3 months experience working with medical equipment or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • A Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cert. A.T.) is preferred but not required with equivalent combination of education and experience of 2-3 years.
  • Experience in anesthesia equipment management preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals preferred.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals preferred.
