About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for performing specialized patient care under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services. This role includes cleaning and maintaining all anesthesia equipment, as well as ordering, stocking, distributing, and maintaining inventory of anesthesia supplies. The technician assists anesthesiologists and nursing staff with direct patient care duties, including patient transfers, preparation of patient equipment, intubations, and regional anesthesia. They also conduct routine checks of emergency and anesthesia carts, maintain the Anesthesia and Operating Room Library, and perform clerical duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent education.
  • Some college or specialized secretarial or business courses preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • 6 months to 1 year of Operating Room/Anesthesia Tech or EMT experience preferred.
  • Understanding of sterile technique is essential.
  • OR and PACU exposure is necessary.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with detailed, confidential material.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to function with a minimum of supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assists anesthesiologists and nursing staff with direct patient care duties including patient transfers, preparation of patient equipment, intubations, and regional anesthesia.
  • Changes soda-lime containers according to specific guidelines.
  • Sets up I.V. solutions, arterial lines, and equipment for anesthesiologists' use.
  • Orders daily Anesthesia supplies from the storeroom and Pharmacy.
  • Reports to the Operating room any malfunctions of equipment; assumes responsibility for service maintenance and records of maintenance.
  • Checks for operational activity of battery run equipment in Anesthesia.
  • Conducts weekly inventory to maintain quantity of supplies at established level.
  • Participates in infection control through regular cleaning of anesthesia equipment.
  • Assists secretary in performing clerical duties at control desk.
  • Maintains Anesthesia and Operating Room Library and keeps catalog file up to date.
  • Conducts routine checks of emergency carts and anesthesia carts.
