About The Position

The Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applicants for a full time Anatomy & Research technician position. We are seeking a team orientated staff member that can work independently to effectively provide laboratory support for a wide array of coursework in Fairbanks, where amazing outdoor recreational activities and experiences occur year round. Ideal applicants would have extensive high quality laboratory or technician experience in a teaching environment. As our Anatomy & Research Technician you would be joining a group of staff dedicated to providing faculty support for the instruction of a small cohort of first and second-year veterinary students. The UAF Department of Veterinary Medicine does not have a teaching hospital or conventional clinical obligations making the primary role of this position to provide laboratory support for the coursework. Major responsibilities of this position include preparation and maintenance of teaching specimens, working with faculty to coordinate plans for lab and independent preparation of lab materials for class. The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm of the laboratory and its integral role relevant to providing the coursework support required, extensive veterinary technician experience and additional skills in topics relevant to the first two years of the DVM curriculum. To thrive in this role you must be enthusiastic about the education of students, be able to work independently, be able to collaborate with faculty, and be willing to contribute to laboratory duties in providing the essential coursework support. A commitment to delivering a high quality educational experience is essential. Veterinary Technician certification is highly desired but not required. Candidates with an interest and technician or laboratory experience including these topics are encouraged to apply. You must be comfortable facilitating lab sessions with live animals, simulators, and cadaver material. The ideal candidate would have advanced training, clinical experience, teaching experience, and enthusiasm for joining a small team and living in the small community of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the delivery of the DVMed labs
  • Four years relevant experience
  • Licensed veterinary technician preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience
