About The Position

The position involves teaching Anatomy and Physiology, with the ability to teach other biology classes being a plus. The instructor will have fifteen contact hours of instruction, five office hours, and will be involved in college and community service as well as ongoing professional development. Classes will be taught at multiple campuses and may be scheduled during days, evenings, or weekends. Preferred candidates should be enthusiastic about content and pedagogy, utilize best teaching practices, and be committed to student learning. Evidence of excellence in teaching and experience at the Community College level is preferred, along with the ability to teach additional freshman and sophomore level biology courses.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology or a related subject with significant relevant coursework required.
  • Must be able to use typical instructional technology.
  • Two years of teaching Biology full time at the high school level or above, or four years part time experience working as an adjunct or graduate teaching assistant.
  • Must be prepared to teach Anatomy and Physiology and able to operate typical biology laboratory equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at the Community College level.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and support student learning by developing and providing clear and effective instruction using traditional and technology-based instruction.
  • Meet all classes as assigned during instructional periods, with a basic teaching load of 15 contact hours each week.
  • Communicate effectively with students by disseminating academic information including syllabi and academic policies and by responding to e-mails and phone calls from students in a timely manner.
  • Provide opportunities to meet with students (Office hours) at least one hour each week for scheduled or unscheduled meetings for each three credits of teaching contact hours.
  • Provide effective and appropriate assessment with prompt qualitative and quantitative feedback.
  • Keep instructional materials and student work organized and accessible. Maintain Learning Management System (Blackboard) site, providing students access to syllabi, grades and other supplemental course material.
  • Support students and other college units and comply with relevant state and federal laws (nominate tutors, write letters of recommendation, refer students to counseling, assist students with special needs, suggest library purchases, help resolve registration issues, maintain student privacy).
  • Collaborate with colleagues in ongoing curricular development including content update, curricular alignment, consistent assessment practices and record keeping.
  • Collaborate with staff by completing and submitting reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in committee, departmental, College and School meetings.
  • Provide College and Community Service through collegial and individual initiatives.
  • Maintain and develop professional expertise through ongoing professional development or scholarship.
