About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. A Pathology Lab Manager oversees daily laboratory operations, focusing on staff management, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and equipment maintenance to ensure quality results and a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent.
  • State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • 7 years progressive work experience and 2 years management experience.
  • Several years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a focus on a specific area relevant to the lab's function.
  • Progressive leadership or management experience with a strong track record of managing teams, projects, and complex laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a technical team.
  • Manage budgets and inventory.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control and safety protocols (e.g., CAP, CLIA).
  • Implement new procedures and maintain equipment.
  • Manage one or more functional areas of a department.
  • Manage two or more professional and support staff including subordinate supervisors.
  • Evaluate and make improvements to department processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage initiatives, strategic priorities and programs which have an impact on the organization.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with leadership to support the budget process and meeting key operational goals.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate, monitor, and evaluate activities and functions of the department/functional business area-based employee/organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with leaders to establish operating procedures, enhance clinical/non-clinical workflows, increase productivity, and improve overall quality outcomes and operational efficiencies.
