OpenAISan Francisco, CA

About The Position

As an Anaplan Solutions Architect, you’ll serve as the primary owner of OpenAI’s Anaplan platform, shaping its roadmap and driving its evolution to support our rapidly scaling business. You’ll design and maintain the models that power our operating plans, workforce forecasts, and strategic decision-making, ensuring they are accurate, performant, and aligned with evolving business needs. You’ll manage and optimize inbound and outbound data integrations to keep Anaplan seamlessly connected to the broader finance and data ecosystem, enabling automated, trusted data flows across the company. You’ll work directly with stakeholders to triage bugs and intake enhancement requests, operating as a key driver of the finance team’s output. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Strategic Finance, Accounting, People, and other cross-functional partners to translate planning and reporting requirements into scalable, maintainable model enhancements. You’ll support monthly forecasting and reporting cycles by building new capabilities, improving existing processes, and delivering insights that help leadership make better decisions, faster. This is a hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of technology and finance — ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex planning challenges and wants to help shape the financial infrastructure behind one of the world’s most ambitious technology companies. This role combines hands-on technical execution with strategic impact, driving reliable, scalable, and compliant integrations that support OpenAI’s growth and financial operations. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining Anaplan models, including completion of official Anaplan certification programs (Model Builder, Solution Architect), with Master Anaplanner certification strongly preferred.
  • Proven success designing and maintaining scalable, well-structured planning models that support forecasting, budgeting, and long-range strategic planning.
  • Deep understanding of model architecture best practices, including driver-based planning, scenario modeling, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience building and managing data pipelines and integrations between planning platforms and source systems (Oracle, Workday, etc), leveraging APIs, ETL, or iPaaS solutions.
  • A strong grasp of accounting and finance principles, including budgeting, revenue forecasting, workforce planning, and multi-entity consolidation.
  • Experience supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual planning cycles — including reconciliation, data validation, and parallel run operations.
  • Exceptional documentation skills and the ability to produce clear technical specifications, modeling standards, and user guides.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements, security best practices, and audit readiness as they relate to planning systems.
  • A track record of success in dynamic, high-growth environments where scalability, accuracy, and reliability are critical.
  • A curiosity-driven approach to technology, with a passion for exploring new modeling techniques, data frameworks, and system capabilities to improve planning outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of Anaplan models that power financial planning, workforce forecasting, budgeting, and long-range strategic modeling.
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, well-structured models and system configurations that support evolving planning and reporting needs.
  • Partner with Strategic Finance, Accounting, and People teams to deliver enhancements that improve forecast accuracy, planning flexibility, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Design and manage robust data pipelines and integrations between Anaplan, Oracle, Workday, and other enterprise systems, ensuring seamless, reliable data flow.
  • Diagnose and resolve model and integration issues — including data mismatches, calculation errors, and performance bottlenecks — while continuously improving stability and reliability.
  • Implement governance, access controls, and metadata management practices that support security, audit readiness, and SOX compliance across the platform.
  • Build and maintain scenario planning tools, driver-based models, and advanced analytics capabilities to enable better business insights and strategic decisions.
  • Document model structures, integration architectures, operational runbooks, and technical processes to ensure long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing.
  • Support monthly forecasting, annual planning, and reporting cycles by delivering accurate data, timely model updates, and technical expertise throughout each planning phase.
