We have an opportunity for the role of Analytical R D Scientist II position supporting the Abbott Core Division, located at Abbott Park, IL. As an Analytical R D Scientist II, you will spearhead and support research activities focused on executing, developing, and optimizing analytical methods. The primary responsibility is to design and execute experiments for characterizing proteins and diagnostic reagents, while also contributing to data analysis, technical reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Design and carry out moderately complex experiments to support research goals.
  • Develop and improve analytical methods with minimal supervision.
  • Work includes standard and customized techniques focused on protein biomolecules such as antigens, antibodies, antibody fragments, and enzymes.
  • Review and interpret data from various sources to support decision-making.
  • Use techniques like HPLC, gel and capillary electrophoresis, immunochemical and spectroscopic methods, and enzymology assays.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues with support as needed, using sound scientific reasoning.
  • Share findings and insights with internal teams and leadership.
  • Summarize and present analytical results clearly and effectively.
  • Support daily lab operations and follow safety procedures.
  • Keep accurate records of experiments and results.
  • Prepare reports that meet quality and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to team efforts and assist in training or guiding others.
  • Collaborate across teams to support product development and adapt to changing project needs.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 2 years with a Master's degree.
  • Working knowledge of experimental design, scientific protocols, and data interpretation, with increasing complexity over time.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards related to IVDs and biologics.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software tools.
  • Experience with standard bioanalytical methods for characterizing protein biomolecules.
  • Ability to optimize analytical methods for new applications and troubleshoot instrumentation or procedural issues.
  • Knowledge of antibodies and immunochemical techniques to support immediate project integration.
  • Experience with executing and analyzing data from enzymology assays, including specific activity measurements.
  • Understanding protein structure-function relationships is considered an asset.
