About The Position

About the role - you will: · Perform measurements to understand Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) and next generation recording failure mechanisms · Assist with sample preparation and routine analytical measurements related to hydrocarbon and organic compound characterization · Support installation, setup, and qualification of new analytical instrument, including performance checks and troubleshooting · Participate in method development and optimization for gas chromatography applications · Perform statistical analysis and data visualization using tools such as Excel, JMP, Python, and R. · Develop and maintain internal tools and workflows that automate ingestion, transformation, and analysis of structured & unstructured data · Collaborate with cross-functional teams on improvements to reports, tools and processes. · Document findings and prepare reports/presentations for internal review · Maintain laboratory organization and follow lab safety protocols

  • Hands-on experience with gas chromatography (GC) instrumentation and method development (GCxGC experience preferred) including various sample introduction techniques i.e., liquid injection, thermal desorption, pyrolysis, SPME, etc.
  • Experience with liquid sample preparation, standard solutions and dilutions
  • Experience analyzing complex mixtures
  • Proven proficiency with open-source software and/or scripting (e.g., Python, JMP, R)
  • Familiarity with experimental design and data interpretation.
  • BS, MS, PhD student pursuing a degree in Chemistry (analytical, organic, or environmental focus), Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field and must be enrolled in Fall 2026 classes.
