The Analytical Group at the Air Force Research Laboratory is seeking a chemist with a desire to mix flightline mission support with aerospace research and development. Although QA/QC is an integral part of the role, the candidate will have ample opportunities to contribute to different research projects ranging from the analysis of new aerospace materials to developing new and improved test methods. This role is ideal for someone wishing to gain laboratory experience, exposure to aerospace R&D, and interfacing with end-users (clients on the flightline). As part of a larger, highly collaborative and multidisciplinary group, the ideal candidate should be a team player that is also capable of operating independently. This opportunity is perfect for an entry- or mid-level chemist seeking to have ownership over their own work while supporting other research activities to support the Department of Defense. The selected candidate will: Perform chemical analysis on a variety of samples and materials using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Support aerospace R&D activities by conducting physical, chemical, and mechanical analyses. May include synthesis, if the candidate desires. Utilize and maintain state-of-the-art analytical equipment including coordination of service visits. Develop methods to analyze new samples and materials. Prepare and write technical reports to interface with clients. Oversee the acquisition of chemicals and equipment. (Optional) Occasionally travel to conferences, training, or workshops for professional development.
