Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the world’s largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy. Under the supervision of a Senior Chemist, Lab Superintendent or Group Leader, the incumbent applies scientific principles to perform routine analysis and characterization of samples. The incumbent supports refining, catalyst and chemical production, development and/or other JM departments, focusing on skill development in a single segment of analytical operations (gravimetric or instrumentation). The incumbent is able to troubleshoot routine matters and may be assigned short-term projects commensurate with technical skill level and demonstrated ability to handle additional responsibility. Note: The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday (4:30PM to 12:30AM)

Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related science
• 1-2 years lab experience, either professional or academic

Responsibilities

• Prepares and accurately determines metal content and other properties of matrix materials.
• Applies established instrumentation or analytical methods, to support refining, catalyst and chemical production, development, and/or other JM departments.
• Compares instrument performance and/or assay results with standards, reporting any deviations from specifications to a Senior Level Chemist or Laboratory Supervisor, and independently initiating corrective action as required.
• Prepares and maintains proper analysis documentation, including summarized test data and procedures.
• Closely interacts with production departments and provides analytical support to maintain highest product standards.
• Maintains a basic understanding of production processes and establishes an ongoing proficiency with analytical and/or instrumentation test methods, related to customer specifications.
• Uses all laboratory equipment safely, cost effectively and accordingly to job requirements.
• May be responsible for the management of hazardous wastes in the lab.
• Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work area.
• May perform other related assignments as determined by the immediate supervisor.
